The kids would rather play than practice, so what better way to prepare for the upcoming tournament than to schedule a game against one of the two teams to beat you earlier in the year.
That's what the Covington Lady Buccs did Tuesday as they traveled to Miami East to take on a Lady Vikings team that beat the 3-0 one month ago - a defeat that remains the only loss in the conference for Covington.
And the Lady Buccs got a measure of revenge by handling Miami East in convincing fashion, 5-0.
Halley Roberts was stellar on the mound by holding Miami East scoreless through the first six innings and Chloe Shell recorded the save by shutting down three straight Viking batters in the bottom of the seventh.
Covington scored two runs in the opening inning and then tallied three more runs in the top of the fifth to earn the victory.
Kristen Boggs had the big hit in the fifth inning with a two-run double.
The victory improves Covington's record to 21-2 on the season as the tournament begins for the Lady Buccs on Thursday at home against Bethel.
Bethel defeated Dayton Jefferson 13-0 today to set up a rematch with Covington, a game the Lady Buccs won 17-0 last week.
