LADY BUCCS RECORD 12 HITS IN 7-1 WIN...
Thanks to some solid hitting, the Covington Lady Buccs overcame mistakes in the field and on the bases to record a 7-1 win over Twin Valley South.

April 17, 2008 - WEST ALEXANDRIA
The Covington Lady Buccs had one of their better days swinging the bats Thursday as they tallied 12 hits in a 7-1 victory over Twin Valley South.

"We moved the ball around pretty well tonight," said Covington coach Dean Denlinger. "We not only had 12 hits, but we had five well executed sacrifices."

Covington got started in the top first inning with three runs.

Michelle Leistner open the game by drawing the walk and Jessica Snipes followed with an RBI single after Leistner stole second.

Erin Christian then followed with an RBI as she batted in Snipes and Kristen Boggs sacrificed in the third Covington run of the inning.

"We had four hits in the first inning alone," Denlinger said. "I was a little worried the girls may be tired because we had each of them take about 150 cuts from different pitchers yesterday in practice. But they came out and swung the bats well."

The Lady Buccs scored three more runs in the fourth and one in the sixth, but mistakes in the field and on the bases prevented them from blowing the game open.

"We had three base running errors and four fielding errors," Denlinger said. "I'm very disappointed in that."

Covington also left 10 runners on base, several of those due to the base running mistakes.

"We're aggressive running the bases," continued Denlinger. "But we made way too many mental mistakes on the bases."

Jessica Shrout and Chloe Shell combined to pitch a two-hitter for Covington. Shrout struck out five and walked just two batters in five innings of work, while Shell recorded the save.

Erin Christian continues her impressive season at the plate as she went 2-for-2 with 4 RBI.

Jessica Snipes went 3-for-4 with 2RBI, while Kristen Boggs also recorded an RBI on a 2-for-3 day.

Shelby Hoblit went 2-for-3 and Carole Bayse was 2-for-4.

Michelle Leistner was 1-for 1, but reached base in each of her four times at the plate.

Covington improves to 6-5 overall and 3-1 in the CCC. The Lady Buccs travel to Arcanum tomorrow night.
