LADY BUCCS DROP 3-1 CONTEST TO NEW BREMEN...
Missed opportunities led to a 3-1 loss to New Bremen despite a stellar defensive effort and solid pitching.

After scoring a total of 27 runs in a double-header against Russia on Saturday, Covington coach Dean Denlinger was obviously disappointed in the offensive performance of his team in a 3-1 loss to New Bremen.
"To score one run after scoring 27 over the weekend is extremely disappointing," said Denlinger. "A few times we did hit the ball, but we hit it right at them. On a couple of those, if we hit the gaps we score five more runs."
Covington's lone run came in the bottom of the seventh on one swing by Erin Christian. The senior continued her stellar season with a solo home run, her third of the year.
"She continues to hit the ball well," said Denlinger.
Both teams only managed four hits, but it was New Bremen who took advantage of its hits.
The Cardinals scored one run in the first and then extended their lead to 3-0 in the top of the sixth with a two-run homer off of Covington's starting pitcher, Kristen Boggs.
"Kristen pitched very well tonight," Denlinger praised. "She had the one pitch that got up and they hit it out. She only gave up four hits and pitched well enough to win."
Boggs went the distance, striking out six and giving up no walks.
The Covington defense also played well enough to get a win as it committed no errors in the contest.
"Defensively, this was a very well played game," continued Denlinger. "Neither team had an error and both pitchers were solid."
After New Bremen scored the first run of the game in its opening at bat, Covington had its chance to put points on the board as Erin Christian walked and reach third base on an over throw ball as she stole second.
But Covington couldn't get the clutch hit to bring her in.
"We had a couple off opportunities that we didn't take advantage of," Denlinger said. "We have to get back on track tomorrow against North because it's a league game."
The Lady Buccs (4-5) look to regroup as Tri-County North comes to town.
