LADY BUCCS TAKE ONE ON THE CHIN...
The Covington Lady Buccs were out of character as they showed no signs of the talent they possess in a 10-0 run-rule defeat to Arcanum.

April 18, 2008 – ARCANUM
Friday's 10-0 shellacking at the hands of Arcanum was a game Covington coach Dean Denlinger would prefer to forget.

"The team I saw out there tonight, I didn't recognize," Denlinger said. "We showed no signs of a softball team tonight. We lacked intensity and passion for the game."

It was obvious in the first two innings that Covington was in for a rough night as Arcanum scored two runs in the first and two more in the second to take a 4-0 lead.

Things got even worse in the sixth as Arcanum pounded out five hits and scored six more runs to take a 10-0 lead into the top of the fourth.

Meanwhile, Covington didn't get anything going offensively as it could only manage one hit the entire evening off of Arcanum pitcher Kylie Burns. That hit came from the first batter in the game, Michelle Leistner.

"Nothing went right for us," said Denlinger. "Everything we hit was right at them. We couldn't get anything going offensively."

The Lady Buccs didn't help themselves defensively either as they committed three errors on the afternoon.

Kristen Boggs started on the mound for Covington and allowed just two hits in two innings. But Arcanum managed four runs in those innings thanks to untimely miscues.

Jessica Shrout came into the game in the third and surrendered five hits and six runs before settling down to hold Arcanum scoreless in the fourth.

The Covington duo combined to strike out just four batters in the five inning contest.

"It was a long bus ride home," Denlinger described. "The girls know they are better than that. The bad thing is we can't practice tomorrow because of the Prom."

But getting back on the field is something the girls want to do as soon as possible.

"Oh yeah they do," Denlinger replied. "This (performance) doesn't sit well and they want to rectify it."

Unfortunately for Covington, it will have to wait until Monday for a non-conference game against Lehman to get back on the field.

The Lady Buccs drop to 6-6 overall and 3-2 in the CCC.
