LADY BUCCS DROP THE BALL...

In a stunning defeat, the Covington Lady Buccs fell to Tri-Village 4-1.

April 27, 2007 – NEW MADISON
All season long Covington coach Lynette Roeth has stressed playing an error free defensive game. Recently her Lady Buccs have been close and the results have shown on the scoreboard as they have won their last two games by a combined score of 25-1 heading into Friday's contest with Tri-Village.

What Roeth witnessed Friday was a complete defensive collapse as the Lady Buccs committed five errors and left New Madison with a shocking 4-1 defeat.

"We just didn't come ready to play," sighed Roeth. "We played as poor defensively as you can possibly play."

Covington did receive another strong performance on the mound from pitcher Jessica Shrout. She went the distance, struck out five, walked none and only gave up three hits."

"When you only give up three hits, you should win," continued Roeth. "Jessica pitched a nice game, but our defense didn't back her up."

The Lady Buccs managed to score their only run in the top of the fourth as nine runners were left stranded throughout the contest.

Covington also connected on seven hits, but were never able to come up with the clutch hit to score runs.

"We made contact on the ball all night, but nothing solid," Roeth explained. "We'd get a runner on and move them into scoring position and get a little dribbler to the pitcher or third. It was like that all night."

One positive at the plate was Erin Christian, who went 2 for 3.

With Saturday's double header with Vandalia cancelled, Covington has a few days to regroup before a brutal four-game stretch next week that consists of Miami East, Ansonia, Newton and Bethel.

"We better be ready to play because we have some tough games next week," Roeth stated. " With two conference losses, we have little margin for error."

Covington's record falls to 8-3 overall and 5-2 in the CCC.
