| LADY BUCCS BEAT TRIAD, 5-0...
Covington captured its third straight win to start the season against the team that ended the Lady Buccs' season a year ago.
March 29, 2007 TRIAD
The start of the season is just what Covington needed as the Lady Buccs have won three straight games against stiff competition, including Thursday's impressive 5-0 win over last year's state runner-up Triad.
The victory was a measuring stick for Covington as Triad handed the Lady Buccs an 11-0 defeat in the District final a year ago.
As it has been through the previous two contests, solid pitching and defense was the key to victory. Jessica Shrout pitched a complete game, facing just 27 batters and allowing just four hits. She struck out 8 and only walked 2 batters.
The Lady Buccs received a nice offensive performance from senior Sarah Ciriegio. The center fielder went 2 for 3 and pounded in 2 RBI. Katie Dickie followed last night's solid effort by recording another RBI, while Kylie Lavy hit in a runner as well.
Michelle Barhorst and Kristen Boggs each pounded out a hit.
The Lady Buccs got off to a fast start, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first and then extended the lead to 5-0 with a three-run inning in the third.
Covington improves to 3-0 on the season. In the three games Covington has recorded two shutouts and outscored opponents 15-2.
The Lady Buccs face Anna next Tuesday at Covington High School.
