The Covington Lady Buccs rebounded from their first loss of the season Monday against New Bremen by throttling National Trail 15-0 in five innings. The victory improves Covington's record to 4-1 on the season and 1-0 in Cross County Conference play.
"It was good to come back after last night and put together a solid game like this," said Covington coach Lynette Roeth. "We got our confidence back."
Covington scattered 12 hits on the afternoon with Sarah Ciriegio and Jennifer Lowry each going 2 for 2 from the plate. Ciriegio also tripled, while Kristen Boggs and Jessica Snipes doubled. Boggs, Kylie Lavey and Michelle Listner each went 2 for 4.
"It was good we put a bat on the ball," Roeth stated. "We had some big innings because we hit the ball well."
Covington opened the contest with five runs in the first inning and took a 6-0 lead into the fourth.
A seven-run inning followed to increase the margin to 12-0 and two more runs in the fifth sealed the victory.
Jessica Shrout picked up the win, pitching three innings and striking out one. Kristen Boggs pitched the final two innings, striking out three batters. Two two combined in a three-hitter.
Covington was also solid defensively, only committing one error.
"We did a nice job defensively," praised Roeth. "We a a lot of balls hit at us, but we did a good job of getting outs."
Covington looks to keep its momentum as it travels to Versailles Wednesday for a 4:15pm start.
