LADY BUCCS CONTROL TWIN VALLEY SOUTH...

The Covington Lady Buccs scored all 10 runs in the second and third innings for a 10-2 win.

April 13, 2007 – COVINGTON
The Covington Lady Buccs just can't get any luck with the weather. They have spent more time in the gym than they have on the playing field since the season started on March 27th.

To finally get a game in after two straight cancellations was a blessing for a team looking to find its groove. Covington took to the sunshine and came away with a 10-2 win over Twin Valley South.

"The kids are tired of it (the weather) and so are the coaches," said Covington coach Lynette Roeth. "Even when we do play, it's cold."

Although the sun was shinning, it was still on the chilly side. But the Lady Buccs didn't care as they were where they wanted to be, on the diamond.

After a scoreless first inning, Covington took control of the contest by scoring three points in the second inning and seven more in the third. Kristen Boggs came up big in the two innings by driving in four of the 10 runs.

"Kristen has been working hard on improving her swing," informed Roeth. "It paid off tonight as she had some big hits with runners on base."

Both big hits by Boggs came with the bases loaded. First, she singled in the second to drive in Jesie Jennings for Covington's first score. She came back in the third and cleared the bases with a three-run double.

Boggs finished the day by battling 2 for 4, including a double and 4 RBI.

"She's the only one on the team to get two hits tonight," Roeth explained. "It's not like we were not hitting the ball. We just walked a lot."

The visiting Panthers walked 13 Lady Bucc batters, which is a credit to Covington's patience at the plate.

"We're a very patient and discipline team at the plate," continue Roeth. "We don't swing at many bad pitches."

While the Covington offense was scoring runs in bunches, starting pitcher Jessica Shrout was in command from the mound. Shrout pitched four shutout innings before turning things over to Kristen Boggs in the fifth.

"Jessica has been doing a great job," praised Roeth. "Kylie (Lavey) calls the pitches and she has done a great job of calling pitches that keep batters guessing."

After scoring all 10 runs in the second and third, Covington suddenly found it difficult to put Twin Valley South away.

The Lady Buccs had the bases loaded for three straight innings in the fourth, fifth and sixth, but were never able to increase the margin on the scoreboard.

Still, the pitching of Boggs and the solid defensive play never let the Lady Panthers to get back into the game. Twin Valley South could only manage to score two runs, one each in the fifth and sixth.

Covington looks to keep the momentum going as West Liberty Salem comes to town tomorrow for a double header. The Lady Tigers are highly ranked in the state and a team Roeth looks forward to playing.

"I hope the weather cooperates," Roeth said. "We want to test ourselves against a team like that (a state ranked team)."
