LADY BUCCS SHUT OUT GRAHAM, 4-0...

Dominating pitching by Kristen Boggs and clutch hitting sparked the Lady Buccs to a 4-0 non-conference win over Graham.

March 28, 2007 – COVINGTON
In her first outing of the season, sophomore Kristen Boggs pitched a no-hitter against Graham in a 4-0 Covington win. Boggs finished with nine strikeouts and just four walks on the afternoon.

"Kristen pitched very well," said Covington coach Lynette Roeth. "But you can also credit the defense for that (a no-hitter) because they had her back the entire game."

It was a pitcher's dual for the first three innings as neither team could score.

Graham did have runners on first and second with no outs as the first two batters walked to start the fourth inning. But Boggs and the Covington defense shut down the next three batters to keep the game scoreless.

Covington got its offense going in the bottom half of the fourth as Erin Christian led off with a double. She then stole second and reached third on an errant pitched that went to the fence.

Michelle Listner followed with a fly ball to left field that was mishandled. Christian scored and Listner reached second base on the error.

After Listner stole third, Jennifer Lowry walked and then stole second to give Covington runners at second and third with no outs.

Katie Dickey stepped up to the plate and drilled a single to right field that scored Listner and Lowry to give Covington a 3-0 lead.

Graham stopped the bleeding by shutting down the next three Covington batters, but the Lady Buccs would ad another run in the sixth.

Again, it was Katie Dickey delivering in the clutch. After Jessica Snipes led off with a single, Jennifer Lowry followed with a single to right to put runners at the corners.

Moments later Dickie, who went 3 for 3 on the day, doubled to right to score Snipes and give Covington more of a cushion, 4-0.

"Katie had some big hits today," praised Roeth. "She drove in three of our four runs and we needed them."

Boggs then took matters into her own hands by retiring the side in the top of the seventh to end the contest with Covington on top, 4-0.

Covington pounded out 7 hits on the day and didn't have an error. Graham committed four errors on the day.

The victory improves Covington's record to 2-0. The Lady Buccs travel to Triad tomorrow night in a rematch of last years District Final. In that game, Triad ended Covington's season by run ruling the Lady Buccs 11-0.
