It was a pitcher's dual, but the Covington Lady Buccs took advantage of clutch hitting and solid pitching to pick up the win.

The Covington Lady Buccs found themselves in a pitcher's dual on Tuesday, but a four-run fourth inning sparked a 5-2 win over Arcanum.
"Arcanum always has a solid team," said Covington coach Lynette Roeth. "Anytime you can get a win against them it's a big win."
Both pitchers in the contest went the distance with Jessica Shrout picking up the win for the Lady Buccs. Shrout struck out eight, while surrendering just six hits and allowing two walks.
Arcanum's Kylie Burns also allowed just six hits, but Covington was able to convert those opportunities into runs.
The Lady Buccs got things going in the second inning as Michelle Leistner reached on a throwing error and eventually ended up on second. After Kylie Lavey laid down a sacrifice to advance Listner to third, Jennifer Lowry drilled a fly ball to right that scored the first run of the contest.
Arcanum tied the score in the top of the third, but Covington responded with a big fourth inning.
Jessica Shrout helped her own cause by connecting on a single that scored Leistner and Sarah Ciriegio. Katie Dickey followed with a double to drive in Jessica Snipes and Kylie Lavey.
"Katie Dickey has been swinging the bat well," praised Roeth.
With a 5-1 lead, Covington put the game into the hands of Shrout and the Lady Bucc defense. Arcanum did score one more run in the top of the seventh to make the final score 5-2.
"It was a well pitched game on both sides," Roeth explained. "Both defenses back up the pitchers and played solid defense."
The victory improves Covington's record to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
The Lady Buccs travels to Bradford on Thursday for another big conference match-up.
