ARCANUM – The Covington Lady Buccs saw their season come to an end with a frustrating defeat to neighboring rival Newton in four sets, 15-25, 25-22, 22-25, 19-25.

The Lady Buccs started off with a quick, four-point lead to open the match, but Newton went on a rampage to take the opening set 25-15.

With the momentum and environment on Newton’s side, the Lady Buccs battled back to tie the match at 1-1 by winning the second set, a set that was back-and-forth until Covington was able to put together a late run.

The third set was much the same as both teams took turns reclaiming the momentum with big plays. Unfortunately, Newton was able to make some huge plays in the final stretch to take the set by the score of 25-22 and a 2-1 lead in the match.

The momentum continued to build for Newton in the fourth set thanks to some amazing defensive plays by the Indians and several huge kills by Sienna Montgomery. Covington fought hard, but couldn’t extend the game as Newton won the deciding set 25-19.

Overall, what hurt the Lady Buccs the most were the 27 hitting errors and five service errors.

Covington finishes its season with a 12-12 record.
