| OTTE'S CAREER COMES TO END AT DISTRICT...
Covington senior Renee Otte saw her memorable high school career come to an end at the district tournament.
OCTOBER 2, 2008 - SPRINGBORO
Renee Otte's bid to become the first Covington golfer to reach the state finals fell a little short yesterday in the district tournament at Heatherwoode Golf Course in Springboro.
But, it was not without a gallant effort on her part.
Renee started off her round in near perfect fashion as her first tee shot found the middle of the fairway. Her second shot was to the middle of the green about fifteen feet from the hole, and she two putted for her par.
Otte's start was impressive as her playing partners both took 8's on the same hole.
Hole two was double bogied as she hit her tee shot OB and hole three was a difficult par three, but Renee hit her tee shot on the green about ten feet from the hole. She then drained the put for a birdie.
The third hole tee shot wasn't without interest as a little critter decided to get involved.
After Renee hit her tee shot, a squirrel provided a little excitement as he ran on the green and tried to take her ball. Luckily he couldn't pick up the ball.
Renee's game continued to be on at the fourth hole, a par five. She hit two perfect shots and was just off the green. Otte then hit a pitch shot to about ten feet and made the putt for back-to-back birdies.
Sitting at even par after four holes, things were loking pretty good.
Then bad stuff started to happen, which took its toll over the remainder of the day.
Otte hit into some trees, water and out-of-bounds - all making for a rough afternoon after a solid start.
She ultimately finished the day with a 99, which was good for a tie at 35th place out of 72 golfers.
Congratulations to Renee on her outstanding year in which she earned Player of the Year in the CCC and qualified to district. In all it made her senior season most successful.
