It’s a new season in a new league for the Covington boys and girls golf teams, but before beginning conference play the Buccaneer golfers took part in invitational tournaments recently.
The girls hosted the Lady Bucc Invitational at Echo Hills on August 9th and finished tenth out of the 14 representing teams, despite competing with just four golfers in the tournament.
Covington finished with a team score of 484 with senior Sarah Slusher leading the way with a 93, good for 12th out of 71 golfers as an individual. Amie Burtrum tallied a 127, while Kara Stephan came in with 133 strokes. Kila Stephan also competed well for the Lady Buccs.
The Buccaneer boys hosted the Kendig Memorial at Echo Hills on August 11th and tied with Piqua for 9th in the teams standings with 372 strokes. Greenville won the 15-team invitational with a team score of 327.
Bryson Hite led Covington with an 87, while Garret Fraley tried a 92 on the day. Connor Humphrey came in with a 96 and Sam Grabeman scored a 97 as four Covington golfers finished under 100 strokes.
