|2011 COVINGTON GOLF PREVIEW...
The Covington boys and girls golf programs look to continue a recent run of success.
It was the end of an era last year when the fearsome foursome walked off the course for the final time at the conclusion of the District Golf Tournament. Rarely has Covington had a senior class like Eric Beckstedt, Andrew Tobias, Marty Leistner and Devon Selanders, four players who led Covington to a league title in 2010.
But a new era is set to begin at Covington with the return of seniors Christian Carder and Wes Root. Both are looking to maintain the recent success of the boys golf team.
Coach Bill Wise also has a talented junior class waiting in the wings to carry the torch left behind. The six juniors looking to make names for themselves are Sam Slusher, Tres Wirt, D.J. Seger, Ben Sherman, Matt Hubbard and newcomer Ryan Craft. Slusher is the lone Covington golfer returning as a league medalist.
Three freshman round out the roster with Joseph Slusher pushing for varsity team, while Jacob Blair and Cody Boggs work on their games at the junior varsity level.
Much is the same for Ron Schultz and the girls golf team as it looks to replace the graduation losses of Chloe Shell, Nicole Henson and Myranda Kelly.
With no seniors on the team, Covington will look to returning letter winners, Jamie Crowell, Cassie Ingle, Connor Schaffer and Allison Ingle to lead the way. Bethany Richards and Katie Blair also returns, while Jordan Blanton join a potent Lady Bucc roster.
Three of the players return as league medalists from a year ago; Cassie Ingle, Jamie Crowell and Connor Schaffer.
The girls look to challenge for the league championship once again after taking second a year ago.
