BUCCS FINISH 6TH AT TROY, LOSE TWO IN CCC...
It was an up and down week for the boys golf team as they put together a nice effort at Troy, but fell to Ansonia.

SEPTEMBER 6, 2008 - TROY
Buccs finish sixth, but record a pleasing score of 342 at the Mark Nordquist Memorial golf Tournament held on Saturday, September 6th at the par 69 Troy Contry Club.

"All in all, I was pleased with our results," said Covington coach Bill Wise. "The course was in great shape - lush and green. The golfers were not used to those conditions as the public courses are pretty parched from the lack of rain, so playing at the Country Club was a special treat."

The Buccs played well even though they were not familiar with the course and didn't have their top golfer available.

"It (the Troy Country Club) is another couses that my golfers haven't seen yet," Wise continue. "We were without our #1 golf, Clark Manson who is battling a bug. With a healthy Clark, I'd say we would have shot at least 10 strokes better."

But the individual performances of the golfers was solid.

"Seth Minnich filled in for Clark with a solid round of 88," Wise explained. "Selanders played better than our last match and Beckstedt shot an outstanding round of 77. Tobias and Leistner are playing consistant golf, but I'd like to see their scores a little lower. Both are capable of going lower."

Fellow CCC team Miami East finished second with a 328, which makes for an interesting league tournament in the near future.

"Miami East is playing well," said Wise. "The league tournament is shaping up to be a great contest. We have a league match away with National Trail on Tuesday and our last league match is at home against Tri-Village on Thursday. Our league tournament is Wednesday, September 17th at Stillwater Valley. Hopefully, we'll peak at the end of the year like last season."
