|SIMPLY THE BEST...
Over the past four years Ashley Johnson has put together a career on the golf course like no other in Covington history. Her name is stamped all over the Covington history books, which is evidence she is the top female golfer in school history.
If there was any doubt as to Johnson's status in women's golf at Covington prior to the season, the senior put those to rest quickly.
In an early season match-up with conference power Arcanum, Johnson broke the school record by shooting and even par 36.
Then, on September 5th at Echo Hills, Johnson lowered the record again. This time she shot a 35 in a dual with Ansonia.
Johnson was part of another record-breaking performance as she led the Lady Buccs to a team score of 170 on September 21st against Tri-Village. It was a special accomplishment as Johnson shot a 38 in the final home match of her career.
As impressive as Johnson's records are, it may be the impact she has on her teammates that makes her the player she is.
Consider, the Lady Buccs captured the conference championship with a perfect 16-0 record. Her teammates have continually lowered their own scores in an attempt to keep pace with Johnson.
One individual who greatly benefitted from teaming with Johnson was Amanda Fritts, who shot a personal best 39 this season.
To top off her impressive performance in her senior season, Johnson was selected as the "Player of the Year" in the Cross County Conference.
It's just another in a long line of accomplishments.
Still, she has the post-season tournaments ahead...opportunities to add to her legend.
