The boys cross country team placed 12th out of 26 teams at the Greenville Treaty Invitational.
"Twelfth place doesn’t sound that impressive, but we really had a nice race today," said Covington coach Josh Long. "Our average time was almost a minute faster than last year. This is a huge race with many of the top schools around. A lot of the boys improved on their times or places from last week."
Willy Hoffert was Covington's top runner once again, placing in the top ten for the second week in a row (9th out of 230 runners).
"Willy ran a smart race," Long said. "His first mile was about ten seconds slower than last week, but his final time was over ten seconds faster."
Brandon Flora was second on the team, cutting over 20 seconds off of his time from last week with a time of 18:22 and placing 44th.
John Karayannis cut over a minute off his time from a week ago running 19:04 and placing 85th.
Rounding out the varsity race was: Zach Shilt 19:05 placing 85th, Michael Rosengarten 19:12 placing 96th, Jake Sowers 19:49 placing 120th, Aaron Devenport 20:02 placing 131st, Dale Brant 21:46 placing 189th, and Dustin Fickert 21:53 placing 192nd.
Reserve times were: Bryant Hicks 21:49, Harry Hicks 22:30, Zac Plessinger 23:50, Brian Hackett 24:16, and Bryan Phillis 24:21.
The girls cross country team placed 7th out of 18 teams. Freshman Tara Snipes led the way with a 16th place finish and running a time of 21:04.
"Tara ran an exceptionally smart race," said Libby Long, the girls coach. "She kept a great pace the whole time."
Carrie Spurgeon placed 27th with a time of 21:37, while Emily Fields came in 35th running a 22:02. Jessie Shilt ran a 22:23 placing 47th. Casey Yingst placed 53rd running a 22:40 and Kayla Fissel placed 58th running a 22:46. Julianna Simon placed 77th with a time of 23:49, while Erin Waterfall ran a 24:30 placing 90th. Raquel Brant placed 98th with a time of 24:46 and Kayleigh Cecil ran a 24:47 placing 100th.
