The Covington Cross Country teams continue to perform well at meets as the gilrs took second and the boys claimed fourth at Spencerville.

SEPTEMBER 12, 2009 - SPENCERVILLE
The Cross Country teams competed at the Spencerville Invitational this past Saturday.
The girls team placed 2nd .
"We had an amazing day," said Libby Long. "Tara Snipes added her name and time to the C.H.S. Top 10 fastest runners list, while Carrie Spurgeon moved up higher on the Top 10 list."
Tara’s time of 20:29 has earned her the 6th fastest runner, and Carrie’s time of 20:42 earned her the 8th fastest runner. The top five runners were all under 22 minutes, while the sixth through tenth runners came in under 23:30.
"Our average team time was 21:15, which may be the fastest team time we have ever had," Long said. "The times that the girls are running right now are amazing. All of the girls either had their fastest or second fastest times ever. They all work together during the race, which is helping the team out tremendously."

Emily Fields 13th - 21:39
Jessie Shilt 14th - 21:43
Casey Yingst 15th - 21:44
Kayla Fissel 21st - 22:14
Erin Waterfall 23rd - 22:32
Julianna Simon 24th - 22:40
Kayleigh Cecil 37th - 23:19
Raquel Brant 38th - 23:26
The boys team placed 4th.
"All the boys really had superb races today," said Josh Long. "We wanted to place in the top four and we accomplished that today. Many of the boys had their best races of their high school careers."
Willy Hoffert led the way placing 4th running a 16:53.
"That time is a huge accomplishment for Willy," Long said. "He is the first boy to reach the 16’s in many years for Covington."
Brandon Floras was the second runner placing in the top ten for the second time in his high school career. Brandon placed 9th running a personal best of 17:51. Zach Shilt and Michael Rosengarten also had personal bests. Zach placed 23rd running an 18:34 and Michael placed 29th running an 18:44. John Karayannis rounded out our top five placing 37th running a time of 19:20.
The rest of the runners also had an impressive day.
Jake Sowers placed 38th , running a time of 19:22. Aaron Devenport placed 44th running a 19:31. Dale Brant placed 55th running a 20:01. Bryant Hicks placed 75th running a 21:32, while Harry Hicks was 81st 21:59, Bryan Phillis 100th 23:23, and Zac Plessinger 109th 24:18.
"The boys have had tremendous attitudes and work ethic through the week, which is why we continue to get better each weekend," Long said.
The Junior High girls team placed 7th out of 17 teams. Times and places are as follows:

Cassidy Cain 50th 14:53
Ariel Robinson 108th 16:42
Amber Workman 133rd 17:53
The boys team was led by Lane White who placed 5th running a time of 11:42, followed by Nick Tobias 140th 15:12, Cale Wagner 198th 18:10, and Collin Stager 201st 18:35.
The teams travel to Eaton this Saturday to compete in the Eaton Invitational.
