OCTOBER 3, 2009 - MILTON
The Cross Country teams traveled to Milton-Union on Saturday to participate in the Miami County Invitational.
The girls team placed second behind Div. II State ranked Tippecanoe. Tara Snipes made All-County by placing 6th.
"Our top two girls ran in the 20’s, and our three through six girls were all under 22," said girls coach Libby Long. "We have never had that many girls run that fast. The girls really have been running incredible races. To come in and place in front of both Troy and Milton was a huge boost for them. Running is such a neat sport because you have control over your own body. You are the only one who can push yourself to get faster. These girls truly understand how to push through discomfort and race to the best ability they have."
Tara Snipes and Carrie Spurgeon have been consistently all year, placing near the top in each race. Snipes came in sixth with a time of 20:36, while Spurgeon was ninth with a 20:57.
"They both continue to run stronger each race," Long praised. "Jessie and Casey both had a breakout race. They both ran their personal bests. Emily ran another solid race coming in less than a second from her best time. Kayla had an awesome race reaching the 21’s for the first time this year. Erin, Julianna, Kayleigh, and Raquel also ran notable races helping the team earn second place. We are looking forward to traveling to the Anna Invitational this Saturday."

Tara Snipes 6th - 20:36
Carrie Spurgeon 9th - 20:57
Jessie Shilt 12th - 21:14

"Ten of the boys ran personal bests today, which is outstanding," said Covington coach Josh Long. "We were really happy with our over all results, even though our team place wasn’t high."
Willy Hoffert had a memorable day. He became the first Covington runner to make the All County team in years by placing 5th, and he also became the 5th fastest boy to run at Covington High school by posting a time of 16:41.
"Willy has worked very hard and he is starting to get some rewards from that hard work," Long said.
Brandon Flora and Michael Rosengarten both had breakout days today.
"Brandon wanted to place in the top 15 today and he knew if he was going to do that he would have to beat some guys he hasn’t beaten all year," said Long ."He accomplished that by placing 11th and running a personal best of 17:31. Michael is really starting to come on here toward the end of the season. He ran a personal best of 18:14 and placing 30th."
