The Covington Cross Country teams competed at the League Meet this past weekend and the high school and junior high girls teams won the League Championship Title, while Lane White brought home an individual championship for the boys junior high team.
The victory for the high school girls was sweet considering it accomplished a team goal set prior to the season.
"The girls ran an awesome race," said Libby Long, Covington's girls coach. "The course and the conditions were not the greatest, but they all put forth their best efforts. The girls wanted to win the League Title all year, and I’m very happy for them. This is the first time since 2000 that we have won League. I think this goes to show how hard they have worked and how committed they have been to running to their best ability."
Tara Snipes, Carrie Spurgeon, Casey Yingst and Jessie Shilt all earned All-League recognition.
"They didn’t have their best times of the year, but they finished closer together," Long said. "The girls are excited and looking forward to Districts this weekend."

"We really hoped to finish higher than 3rd," said Covington coach Josh Long. "But we knew the whole team would have to run their best races today and it just wasn’t our day. It was a tough course for many of our boys, and they struggled with the course conditions. Willy and Brandon did manage to make the All Conference team with their efforts. We are going to work hard this week and look forward to having a great race at Districts this weekend. "
