|2009 BOYS CROSS COUNRTY TEAM...
The Buccs Cross Country team returns a load of talent as they look to make a third straight trip to regionals.
Expectations are high this year for the Covington boys cross country team as they return six runners from a team that qualified for the Regional meet a year ago.
"The boys really want to build on last years success," said Covington coach Josh Long. "We won the League Championship for the first time in seven years and we were the first boys team to make back to back appearances to Regionals in eight years, so we have a lot to run for."
Covington graduated three of the runners that helped us achieve that success (Darrell Thobe, Andy Hittle, Tyler Moody), but the good news is the talent that remains.
Leading the way for the Buccs will be juniors Willy Hoffert and Brandon Flora, both All-League performers last year. Other upper classman that will be counted on this year are seniors Michael Rosengarten, Aaron Devenport and juniors Zach Shilt, Harry Hicks and Brian Hackett.
Plus, the Buccs field a very talented roster of underclassman, who will push the top runners in each meet. The list includes sophomore Zac Plessinger and freshmen Dale Brant, Dustin Fickert, Bryant Hicks, John Karayannis, Bryan Phillis, and Jake Sowers.
"That is a solid group of young runners that will be pushing the upper classmen for a varsity spot," said Long. "When you have competition within your own program it makes you that much better."
Which is why Covington is excited about the possibility of a third straight regional appearance.
