2021-22 LADY BUCCS PREVIEW...
The Covington Lady Buccs have the potential for another great season in the history of Covington basketball.

The 2021-22 campaign will be the 48th season in the history of Lady Buccs Basketball and over the course of the previous 47 years the program has been a pillar of success with a 632-400 overall record for a .612 winning percentage.

The program has had 30 winning seasons, won at least 20 games in 8 seasons and captured five district titles in 1989, 1992, 2004, 2007 and 2018 and had several graduates excel at the collegiate level.

This year’s team looks to ad to the tradition of success and perhaps stamp their own legacy as the unit returns five key players from a 14-8 team a year ago in seniors Claire Fraley (6-0), Parker Metz (5-8) and Claudia Harrington (5-6), along with sophomores Gracie Anderson (5-9) and Carlie Besecker (5-9).

“Claudia will look to lead us from the point guard position again being a threat at both the offensive and defensive end of the floor,” Studebaker said. ”Claire returns for her senior year as an inside threat at both end of the floor and Parker Metz will play valuable minutes as well."

Gracie Anderson and Carlie Besecker contributed greatly as freshmen last season and will hopefully see their rolls increase after a year's worth of growth and increased strength from the weight room.

"Gracie Anderson returns as another key player for us," Studebaker said. "Carlie looks to improve and help lead us again this season as a threat from both ends of the floor.”

Covington did lose one senior from a year ago in Ellie Hedges and also lost a couple of underclassmen who contributed a year ago, but junior Erika Gostomsky (5-11) and freshman Maggie Anderson (5-11) are slated to step in to fill the voids.

"Erika Gostomsky will look to play valuable minutes this season and Maggie Anderson will bring more versatility to the roster this season," Studebaker said.

The 2021-22 season presents new challenges for Covington as it competes in its first season in a newly formed league - the Three Rivers Conference consisting of Milton-Union, Riverside, Troy-Christian, Lehman Catholic, Northridge and old CCC rivals Bethel and Miami East. Each team will see each other twice in home-away games.

Combine that with a brutal non-league schedule consisting of the likes of Versailles, New Bremen, Anna, Jackson Center, Fairlawn and Houston, the Lady Buccs will be battle tested come tournament time.

Senior Parker Metz looks forward to providing key minutes to the Lady Buccs this season.
Senior Claudia Harrington returns for her fourth season at the varsity level.
