The Covington Lady Buccs got off to a fast start against Jackson Center and cruised to a twenty-point win to improve to 15-2 on the season.
Sammi Whiteman led all scorers with 24 points.

JANUARY 26, 2019 - JACKSON CENTER
Covington dominated early, had a lull, and then closed the show in capturing a 49-29 win over Jackson Center in non-conference action on Saturday.

The Lady Buccs jumped out to a 13-2 lead in the opening frame, but Jackson Center got hot in the second quarter to outscore Covington 14-11 and cut the margin to 24-16 at the break.

But behind a 24-point performance from senior Sammi Whiteman and balanced scoring from the supporting cast, the Lady Buccs were able to control the second half 25-13 for the twenty-point win.

Whiteman's 24 points led all scorers, while Makenzee Machino chipped in 9 points, Lauren Christian had 5 points, Lilly Hamilton 4 points and Claudia Harrington scored 3 points. The two Morgans - Morgan Kimmel and Morgan Lowe scored 2 points each and has solid defensive efforts in containing Jackson Center’s offensive weapons.

Covington connected on 13 shots from the floor - 11 coming from two-point range and two from behind the arc. The Lady Buccs were stellar from the free throw line, connecting on 21 of 26 attempts.

Meanwhile the Lady Bucc Defense made life difficult for the host Tigers as it held Jackson Center to just 10 field goals throughout the entire contest - seven from two-point range and three treys. Jackson Center made true on 6 of 8 from the free throw line.

The win boosts Covington's record to 15-2 on the season as it prepares for a huge CCC showdown at home on Thursday against league rival Miami East.
