BUCCS GET MUCH-NEEDED WIN OVER NORTH...
Jake Hamilton and Wes Gooding combined for 39 of Covington’s 59 points in a 16-point win over Tri-County North on Friday.

JANUARY 15, 2021 - COVINGTON
The Covington Buccaneers earned a much-needed win on Friday - defeating Tri-County North 59-43 in CCC action.

And it was due to the Buccaneers’ dominance in the first and third quarters, where Covington outscored the Panthers 15-2 in the first and 22-12 in the third - a 23-point combined margin.

Early on it was the hot shooting of seniors Jake Hamilton and Wes Gooding that got Covington rolling as the duo combined to score 13 of the first 15 points put up by the Buccaneers.

Meanwhile, the Buccaneer defense harassed Tri-County North - limiting the Panthers’ shot opportunities. This resulted in one lone bucket by North in the opening frame.

But Tri-County North wasn’t about to go away as evident by a 16-10 scoring advantage over Covington in the second period. The Panthers, who lived by the three all night, dropped in four of their nine treys in the second frame to cut the Buccaneer advantage to 25-18 at the break.

Covington was able to regroup in the third as Jake Hamilton dropped in 12 of his game-high 27 points in the frame. Owen Boehringer contributed with six points, while Wes Gooding hit a trey and both Britton Miller and Tyler Alexander connected on buckets.

Leading 47-30 with one period to play, Covington received a huge momentum lift to prevent a mental lapse as Jake Hamilton slammed down a dunk after an Owen Boehringer steal. From there the Buccaneers used the lead and the clock to their advantage to cruise to a 16-point win.

As previously mentioned, Hamilton led all scorers with 27 points, while Wes Gooding chipped in 12 points of his own.

Next up for the Buccaneers is a road contest tomorrow night at Houston.
