The Covington bats were out in full swing, while Austin Angle was stellar on the mound as the Buccs run ruled Bethel 11-0.

It was a balanced effort across the board as the Covington Buccaneers run ruled Bethel 11-0 in five innings for their second straight win to improve to 2-5 overall and 2-0 in the CCC.
"We're playing more relaxed and confidence," said Covington coach Mitch Hirsch. "It was big that we scored the four runs in our first at bat because the kids were able to relax and have fun."
Having fun drew a warning from the umpire in a three-run fourth inning as the Buccs stretch the boundaries of the dugout while celebrating.
"He was right to warn us because it is a safety issue," said Hirsch. "Still, it was good to see our kids excited because of the way our first five games went. It shows the kids are still excited about the game and having fun."
In all, Covington racked up 12 hits, didn't commit a single error and received a stellar pitching performance from Austin Angle. The sophomore hurler went the distance in recording the three-hitter. He struck out five and didn't give up any walks.
"Austin threw a heck of a game," Hirsch stated. "The defense played well behind him and he threw less than 50 pitches tonight. He basically threw fastballs and curveballs all night, but he threw them for strikes."
The Covington bats were out in full force with Andre DeHart leading the way with a two-run homer in the top of the fifth. Jake Stewert recorded a triple, while Steven Blei and Sheldon Rank each went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.
"Even though we struggled in our first few games I knew we would be a different team once we started hitting the ball," said Hirsch. "We're starting to come around at the plate and it's paying off."
The Buccs also benefitted from Bethel miscues as the Bees committed three errors on the day and had issues putting the ball across the plate. Bethel walked a total of eight batters in the contest.
"They made some mistakes that we were able to take advantage of and that's what good teams are suppose to do," Hirsch explained. "Any time you can get the other team to help you out it makes your job easier and the kids took advantage of it."
Which resulted in the second straight win and some confidence to boot.
