| "MOUSE" COMES THROUGH IN THE CLUTCH...
Kyle Kanet recorded the game-winning hit with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth.

After striking out the three previous times he stepped to the plate, Buccaneer sophomore Kyle Kanet found himself in the perfect situation to become a hero. It's the situation every baseball player dreams about - coming through with the winning hit - with two outs and the bases loaded in a tie game.
That's what Kanet did in the bottom of the sixth inning. He delivered a line shot between the second and third baseman to score Drew Craft and Brad Plank and give the Buccaneers a 2-0 win against Twin Valley South.
"He (Kanet) just kept battling," said Covington coach Mitch Hirsch. "He got a good pitch and went with it."
He did it against a pitcher that has given Covington fits over the previous three years, Wes Rehmert.
"We have never beaten him (Rehmert) until tonight," Hirsch praised "He is a great pitcher and he kept us off balance all night. Against a good pitcher like that you have to be patient and keep battling. We did that tonight and it paid off."
Rehmert was stellar on the mound for the visiting Panthers - going the distance, striking out 12 and walking just five. He also hit a batter, but only allowed five hits.
Covington's David Moss was just as impressive in recording the shutout. Moss also went the distance, striking out five and allowing just four hits. The senior right hander also didn't give up a single walk.
"David pitched really well," Hirsch said. "He kept their hitters guessing and we backed him up defensively."
It was the Buccs' most impressive defensive performance of the season as they didn't commit a single error and only allowed one Panther runner reach second base all night.
"This is by far our best game defensively," Hirsch continued. "We had guys diving all over tonight trying to make plays. Defensively, it was a great game by both teams."
Covington managed to put runners in scoring position in three out of the first four innings. On each occasion they had runners at first and third with two outs, but were never able to come through with the clutch hit to score points.
"We just couldn't get the big hit," Hirsch said. "Every time we would get runners into scoring position, Rehmert would strike somebody out. He was tough to hit."
That all changed in the bottom of the sixth as the Buccs received some help from Rehmert.
Drew Craft started off the inning with a single to center field and he advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Nate Lavey.
Brad Plank then received a free ticket to first by taking a pitch off the shoulder, but Rehmert clammed down by striking out the next Covington batter to get the second out.
Jordy Burelison kept the inning alive by drawing the walk to load the bases. This set up Kanet's heroics with the game-winning single.
"This was a great game between two great teams," Hirsch said. "When you see two teams play baseball like that, it's a shame there has to be a loser."
The victory improves Covington's record to 5-0-1 and 2-0 in conference play. It was a gratifying win because it was the type of game this same group players would fall short in last season.
"Last year we probably wouldn't have won a game like this," Hirsch explained. "But all of these guys are a year older and they hate to lose. They're on a mission this year.
Still, Hirsch feels the best is yet to come.
"We still haven't reach our full potential," Hirsch concluded. "Once we put it all together, we'll be pretty good."
