COVINGTON – The schedule for the Covington softball team has been revised dramatically due to the unpredictable spring weather and a double header against Anna was added on Saturday, which the Lady Buccs captured two wins by the scores of 6-2 and 10-0.

In the first game against the Rockets, Covington scored one run in the second, two in the third and three in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead. Anna scored a run in the fifth and another in the sixth, but Covington was able to hold off the Rockets for the 6-2 victory.

The Lady Buccs racked up 12 hits to just four for Anna. Emalyn Johnson went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBI and scored two runs. Stevi Newhouse, Kamryn Barnes (2 doubles) and Jayda McClure (2 doubles) all connected on two hits each, while Karyanne Turner, Taylor Foutz (1 double) and Whitney Burns record one hit a piece.

Whitney Burns threw four innings to pick up the win, while Jayda McLure threw two innings and Karyanne Turner threw one inning. Burns struck allowed just one hit and struck out eight batters.

Covington run-ruled Anna 10-0 in five innings in the second game. Jayda McClure and Karyanne Turner tossed two innings each, while Whitney Burns threw in the fifth inning. The trio combined for a no-hitter and allowed just two base runners – one on a walk and one on an error. McClure picked up the victory as the starter.

The Lady Buccs recorded eight hits with Emalyn Johnson leading the way by going 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and scoring one run. Jayda McClure had two hits, while Ava Hartwig connected on a home run. Also recording hits for Covington were Kamryn Barnes and Bella Batdorf.

With the two wins the Lady Buccs improve their record to 7-2 on the season. Next up is a home contest against Minster on Monday.
