LADY BUCCS FALL TO RUSSIA IN SECTIONAL

SIDNEY – Covington suffered a 50-35 defeat to Russia in the third round of the sectional tournament at Sidney High School on Monday.

It was the second time Covington faced the Lady Raiders this season, the first meeting taking place on December 11 where the Lady Buccs came out on top 44-37 at Russia.

Things didn’t materialize the way Covington had hoped as Russia built a 14-10 lead after one and pushed its advantage to 26-16 at the break. The Raiders increased its margin to 38-27 at the end of the third and closed out the game by outscoring the Lady Buccs 12-8 in the final frame for a 15-point victory.

Covington made 12 two-point field goals, one three-pointer and eight of 13 free throws.

Maggie Anderson led the Lady Buccs with 13 points. She also set a new school record for the best free throw percentage in a season by making 77 of 87 free throws for 88.5%.

Delaney Murphy had 10 points, Carlie Besecker dropped in 8 points and Gracie Anderson scored 4 points.

Covington closed out its season with a 19-6 record.
