SIDNEY – The Covington Lady Buccs improved their record to 16-4 overall and 11-1 in the TRC with a 46-31 win over Lehman-Catholic on Thursday.

What sparked Covington was the offensive performances of senior Carlie Besecker and sophomores Avery Koffer and Delaney Murphy, which was critical due to Lehman’s defensive strategy of making things difficult for Maggie Anderson and Gracie Anderson – which was much of the same strategy the Lady Cavaliers implemented earlier in the year when Covington won 59-33.

It looked like Covington was going to take control early as it built a 15-8 lead, but Lehman stayed within striking distance midway through the third period as the Lady Buccs held a 26-18 advantage.

Fortunately Covington’s overall talent was on display as the Lady Buccs pushed their lead to 39-26 late in the game and then closed out the contest with a 15-point victory.

Defensively, Delaney Murphy and Gracie Anderson were able to force several turnovers, which led to the late push for Covington.

The win keeps Covington in the hunt for at least a share of the TRC title. Next up is a road contest at Riverside on Saturday.
